Running 4 A Reason (R4R) is a non-profit organization that was founded in 2008 by a group of Plum Borough marathon runners and tri-athletes.  The members of R4R have dedicated themselves to providing funds to families affected by the onset of  Carcinoid cancer.  We raise funds primarily in two methods:

Miles of Smiles for Sunny 5K Event is our annual race in Plum Borough that raised over $20,000 in our inaugural race in 2008.  The proceeds went to Sunny Carney and her family to help the enormous cost of treating this rare form of cancer.

We also raise funds by creating an R4R team that runs in local races such as the upcoming 2009 Pittsburgh Marathon.  Runners who wear the R4R logo on their race shirts have either made a monetary donation to R4R or will collect money for R4R by finding donors to contribute monies either as a flat donation or pledging monies per mile ran in the various races throughout Pittsburgh.
